#BookReview - A Pearl for My Mistress by Annabel Fielding

A story of class, scandal and forbidden passions in the shadow of war. Perfect for fans of Iona Grey, Gill Paul and Downton Abbey.

England, 1934. Hester Blake, an ambitious girl from an industrial Northern town, finds a job as a lady's maid in a small aristocratic household.
Despite their impressive title and glorious past, the Fitzmartins are crumbling under the pressures of the new century. And in the cold isolation of these new surroundings, Hester ends up hopelessly besotted with her young mistress, Lady Lucy.
Accompanying Lucy on her London Season, Hester is plunged into a heady and decadent world. But hushed whispers of another war swirl beneath the capital... and soon, Hester finds herself the keeper of some of society's most dangerous secrets...

The years leading up to the Second World War are one of my favourite periods to read about so I was delighted when Annabel Fielding contacted me to ask if I'd be interested in reviewing A Pearl for My Mistress. Many thanks to …

Review Policy

Thank you for taking the time to read my review policy, I am very happy to review books on request and will accept submissions from publishers and authors. I prefer print books where possible but will also gladly read ebooks. I love crime fiction and SFF but also enjoy YA, historical fiction and some non-fiction, particularly memoirs. I'm also willing to read outside my preferred genres should the blurb entice me! I enjoy sharing books with my youngest daughter so I can also review books aimed at the 9-13 year old market, she prefers exciting adventure and/or fantasy stories with strong protagonists. I occasionally read romance but no erotica please.
I usually have several books lined up so if you would like a book reviewed by a certain date I will require at least a month's notice. Blogging about books is a hobby I am passionate about but I also have a job and a family so I may not be able to accept all requests.
I love taking part in blog tours and can usually provide a review but am also happy to feature guest posts or to host a Q&A with the author.
My reviews are always honest but I prefer not to post negative reviews so if your book is not for me I will contact you to explain this. I believe all books have their audience and sometimes I'm just not it! I will never ask for any payment for my reviews and I am not part of any affiliate program.
I can be contacted through the form in the sidebar on the home page of this blog, via email at hairpastafrecklebookreviews@gmail.com or via @karlou on Twitter.
